Attorney Profiles - Ronald S. Motil

A partner in Beatty & Motil, Ronald S. Motil is a native of Granite City, IL, graduating from Granite City Senior High School South in 1974. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1979, Motil enrolled in the School of Law at St. Louis University, receiving his Juris Doctor Degree in 1983. Mr. Motil is licensed to practice law in the states of Illinois, Missouri, and Nebraska. He presently lives in Maryville with his wife, Cathy, also a native of Granite City, Illinois, and their three children.

Mr. Motil and the members of Beatty & Motil specialize in representing individuals who have claims and causes of action for personal injury, unfair treatment, workers' compensation, products liability, and medical malpractice. Mr. Motil has also provided representation for those individuals charged with a crime and has helped many people obtain social security disability benefits before the Social Security Administration after they were first denied benefits. Representative union clients of Mr. Motil who were injured on the job have included steelworkers, asbestos workers, plumbers, electricians, firefighters, police officers, laborers, ironworkers, railroad workers, and clerical workers. He currently and in the past has represented injured workers from the states of Illinois, Missouri, Texas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Nevada, and Arizona.

Prior to college, Mr. Motil worked for a short time as a laborer at the Granite City Steel factory. This experience has aided him greatly while representing injured workers. Prior to law school, Mr. Motil also was employed as a Deputy Circuit Clerk for the Circuit Court of Madison County from 1976 to 1980. In 1980, he also was employed as a Deputy Clerk for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.

Mr. Motil has tried personal injury cases in the Circuit Courts of Madison, St. Clair, Williamson, and Marion Counties of Illinois and has had trials as well in the U. S. District Courts for the Southern and Central Districts of Illinois and the Circuit Court of St. Louis County. He has also won benefits for injured workers at various dockets before the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission in the cities of Granite City, Alton, Collinsville, Carlyle, Decatur, Benton, Carlinville, and Chicago and before the Missouri Division of Workers' Compensation in the cities of St. Louis, Lebanon, Poplar Bluff, Cape Girardeau, and St. Charles. Mr. Motil has argued cases on appeal before the Illinois Appellate Court for the Fifth District of Illinois and the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District. He has also represented clients at appeal hearings before the Social Security Administration in St. Louis, Missouri, Beaumont, Texas, and Harrison, Arkansas. Mr. Motil has also formerly been legal counsel to the Village of Glen Carbon and to the Tri-Township Park District in Troy, Illinois. He is currently the village attorney for the Village of Pontoon Beach.

Mr. Motil's numerous professional memberships include the Illinois State Bar Association, the Missouri State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Madison County Bar Association, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, and the Bar Association for the Central and Southern Federal Districts of Illinois. He is also a past President of the Madison County Bar Association (2004-2005) and a past President of the Tri-City Bar Association (1993). He also serves as a Hearing Panel member of the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois.

In addition to his professional memberships, Mr. Motil has served on various civic committees and boards in his community and in his profession. In 1993, Mr. Motil served as a member of the Magistrate Selection Committee for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. He has been a guest lecturer on workers' compensation issues for the People's Law School, sponsored by the Madison County Bar Association. He also has been a past President, Vice-President, and Commissioner of the Granite City Park District and served as a member of the Board of Directors of Solid Granite, Inc., a civic improvement group. From 1995 to 2003, Mr. Motil served as Chairman of the Granite City Regional Wastewater Treatment Board. He is a past President of the School Board of Marquette Catholic High School in Alton, Illinois and is a member of the Parks and Recreation Committee for the Village of Maryville, Illinois. He also serves as a Commissioner of the Madison County Flood Prevention District.

Mr. Motil is an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City and is a member of the Holy Family Pastoral Council.
He is a member of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus organization in Granite City.
